Yes, the foods you eat and consume play an important part in becoming YOU each day. As the saying goes, “We are what we eat”!  Not only that these can fuel up the body but also can make us happy and active each day.

Are you ready to meet them? Here’s an introduction to the 11 happy foods that you should make a part of your daily life.

Just hearing the name and it excites you, right? Most of us adore chocolates. Although these are known to be a source of fats that make people obese, well, not at all times. Chocolates, as a matter of fact, have anadamine, a brain chemical which helps us brighten our moods. Hmm…. Experts say that chocolates have other chemicals that make anadamine stay longer in the brain, which stimulates and enhances its positive effects. Chocolate’s sugar content also boost endorphins , one of the ‘happy hormones’. Of course, everything that is too much can cause you to gain weight. So make sure to consume chocolates in moderation.


Do you drink a glass of milk each day? Milk products contain tryptophan, an amino acid essential in the production of serotonin. Serotonin is what makes us calm and happy. Milk is also rich in antioxidants, Vitamin D and Vitamin B12. These nutrients help us fight aging and stress.
Noodles, bread, and rice.
Carbohydrates – these are usually our comfort foods. Especially for some of the people who are suffering from depression, they often opt to turn to eating carbo-rch foods. That must be also controlled since too much of them can affect weight. On the other hand, carbohydrates increase serotonin levels which bring us calming effects. Just make sure you choose healthy carbohydrates such as brown rice, wheat bread and vegetables.

Oily fishes.
By oily, I meant healthy oils J Fishes such as sardines, salmon and mackerel are all efficient sources of Omega-3 fatty acids which help us lift moods and be happy all day. Omega-3 foods are also good for the heart and brain.

Broccoli. Named as one of the world’s healthiest foods, broccoli is abundant in Vitamins and minerals. It has Vitamin B which helps to fight stress. It also contains folate or folic acid which aid in improving temperament. Most importantly, this is also dubbed as one effective anti-cancer food. Moms must include this superfood in their weekly recipes.



Ever wondered why this is Popeye’s favorite food? Well, hey, maybe because this can magically make him stronger! This food is rich in folic acid which is essential in making serotonin. A cup of cooked spinach contains 250 micrograms of folic acid. So, it’s just ideal to start your day with spinach to become fully energized. Some other health enthusiasts make a healthy smoothie out of this green healthy food.

Bananas. Bananas contain a lot of nutrients that can make us happy and feel stress-free all day. It also contains tryptophan and carbohydrates, both essential in making us happy and energized. Rich in potassium which helps prevent cramps, bananas are considered to be one of the world’s healthiest foods. So take two bananas a day and you’ll be free from health issues.

Beans and soybeans.
Beans are rich folic acid, fiber, and omega-3 fats. They are also rich in iron and calcium which are good in increasing red blood cells and the bones. On the other hand, soy has genistein, which helps prevent prostate cancer and other types of breast cancers. Soya milk can be a good start for each day.

Blueberries are rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants. They are known as stress-busters and help in fighting free radicals which are harmful to our health. They are also good for the memory and can prevent cancer.
I personally love coffee. This is my ‘jumpstarter’ everyday. J Obviously, this is one of the most common energy foods. It is deemed that people who often drink coffee are less likely to experience depression. Caffeine is known to be a mood-enhancing drug. Coffee can boost energy levels and helps improve memory. Just an important reminder: consume coffee in moderation for too much of it can cause heart palpitation and sleeplessness. Cheers to that!



Dubbed as one of the world’s powerfoods, nuts are rich in protein, selenium and omega-3 fats. (Ever heard the old saying that if you want to become smart, then you’ll need to eat peanuts!) It also has Vitamin E which is an antioxidant. They can help us improve the blood flow in the brain and lift our moods. This food must also be taken in moderation to avoid increase of uric acid in the body.
